Reflection: Church
The Bible speaks of church, not as a building, but a gathering of God’s people. Most of the New Testament letters were written to individual churches.
You may have absolutely nothing in common with the person you are sitting next to in church – except the fact that you both love Jesus. That’s okay… in fact, the New Testament letters expect this! They are filled with reminders of how we should treat fellow believers, even when they are very different from ourselves. Philippians 2 encourages us to work hard at loving the people in our church.
Sometimes choosing a church to attend can be very difficult. The Bible describes healthy churches as those which teach from the Bible, places where you can grow and serve, and look outward to the local and global community. Being able to meet with other believers in a church like this is a huge blessing. It brings eternal reward, and gives us a taste of what God has planned for us for eternity (Revelation 7:9).
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for saving me so that I may love and serve you as a member of your people. Please show me how I can love the brothers and sisters you’ve given me this week. May we worship you well together. Amen.
