Reflection: Prayer
Communication is key to a good relationship. Prayer is communication with God and can be done anywhere and in many ways. There are no special formulas for prayer because the power of prayer comes from God and not from us. Ephesians 6 reminds us that Christians are to pray in the Spirit, that is, we are to pray as part of our Spirit-filled, Christian lives. This is simply a reminder that prayer should not be a lifeless ritual but done because we want to connect with the God who calls himself our Father.
The Bible encourages us to pray about ourselves but also about others. We are to keep on praying until something happens. At times God doesn’t answer prayer in the way we expected, but we can be confident he loves us and does what is best (Romans 8:38). When I have found prayer difficult, it has helped me to begin by simply sharing my thoughts with God. We can tell God what is making us happy, and what is upsetting us. Speak to him of what happened to you today, and what your hopes for the future are. Through Jesus, the God of the universe is our Father, and he cares about us very much. Why wouldn’t we want to speak to him?
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank you so much that I can talk to you about everything. Forgive me for the times I go about my life without being awake to You. Please remind me to share my life with you. Amen.
