Reflection: I was with a group of tourists deep underground in the Naracoorte Caves when the tour guide switched off the lights so we could experience total blackness. It was a disturbing experience.
If there is a word that characterises our world today, with its loss of civility, loss of morality and loss of truth: it is “darkness”.
In the midst of this, Jesus comes to us and says: “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). Then he turns to us who follow him and says: “You are the light of the world.”
If you live away from the city lights and look at the full moon on a clear night, it is blinding. The moon is reflecting the light from the sun. In the same way, we are called to reflect the grace and truth of the Son – Jesus.
Light destroys darkness. It exposes the nasty things that try to hide and enables people to see.
Your mandate is to be a beacon of hope and a lighthouse to those in darkness.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, The world is so dark, and I feel so helpless and unable to do anything significant to address it. May your light shine from me so that it brings truth and hope to others. Amen.
