Reflection: There is a driving ambition in each of us for significance. It is the cry of our soul to be significant to others – both in our relationships and through the things we do. The fact that we have been made in God’s image means that something of God’s creativity lives in us and demands expression.
In Jesus’ seventh “I am” saying, he says: “I am the vine; you are the branches.” This statement is an invitation to be fruitful in a way that is truly significant – in a way that not only impacts the world but impacts eternity.
The one thing that makes this possible is being grafted into Jesus so that his truth, his power, and his words flow through us. If we are not “in Christ”, we wither, die, and produce nothing. But when we are “in Christ,” we produce “fruit” that delights Jesus and gives the heavenly Father glory.
Let us be about it!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, My one passion is to be fruitful in doing the things that bring you glory. Please watch over me by your Spirit, and prompt me to remain grafted into Jesus so that I might give honour to your name. Amen.
