Reflection: When we read the summary of Moses’ story, we know that he lived 120 years, but only a few years were spent at home with his mother. These few years were crucial in the life of Moses as they shaped his whole life afterwards. Jochebed, his mother, was a woman of faith and by faith she hid him for three months. When Pharaoh’s daughter gave Moses back to her, she brought him up in faith, teaching him that he belongs to God and is different from others. She shared with him many Bible stories and many of God’s commands. Consequently, Moses followed the same path of his mother and we read in Hebrews that “by faith he refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter …” He also took many other steps in faith, leaving Egypt and keeping the Passover (Hebrews 11:27-28). For forty years, Moses led God’s people in the wilderness by faith. He faced many difficult situations but learned how to pray and trust God in all details. The influence of a faithful mother, who lived sincerely in faith, cannot be underestimated.
Whatever the children learn in their childhood will never be forgotten when they grow up. A video series originally produced by the American Bible Society, Kingsley’s Meadows (simply “Kingo” in Arabic), is being used by the Bible Society of Egypt (BSE) to reach children of pre-school age and older. Drawing valuable lessons from the Bible, its stories demonstrate the relevance of God’s word to typical situations that children face every day. The BSE has discovered “Kingo” to be the perfect tool and strategy to impact Christian children nationwide. Since 2005, live “Kingo” Celebration Events make direct contact with children, parents and church leaders, encouraging all to unite in this worthy task of establishing the next generation in basic Christian principles.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank you so much for our children, who are a reward from you. Help us to be good examples to them, lead them to you, and teach them your way. Amen.
