Sharing faith in God for the future

Day 1 of 7

CEV

2 Timothy 3:14-15

14Keep on being faithful to what you were taught and to what you believed. After all, you know who taught you these things. 15Since childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise enough to have faith in Christ Jesus and be saved.

Series Introduction: Young children in the whole world today are experiencing many unique challenges, in large part because of the drastic influence of media on their behaviour and attitude. Parents need more than ever to concentrate on introducing God’s love to their children. Spending time with our children in prayer and in sharing Bible stories that demonstrate God’s love, kindness, compassion and his plan for their salvation should be our priority. God encourages us that our teaching to our children will definitely bear fruit. His word will not return empty but will accomplish what he desires and achieves the purpose for which he sent it.

Reflection:  In his final letter to Timothy before his martyrdom, Paul writes to encourage Timothy in his faith, mentioning Eunice and Lois and commending them for their faith. Not only did Eunice and Lois live out their faith in the presence of young Timothy but they also taught him the books of the Old Testament. They spent time with him opening Old Testament scrolls and sharing with him stories from the Bible that pointed to Jesus as the Saviour. Being raised in a godly home, Timothy grew up a faithful Christian who was afterwards chosen by Paul to accompany him in his missionary trips. In Philippians 2: 21-24, Paul writes that he had no one else like Timothy, who showed genuine concern for the Philippians’ welfare. He also added that Timothy served with him, as a son with his father, in the work of the Gospel. This great testimony is a result of a godly mother whose main concern was bringing up her child to the Lord.

Appreciating the great importance of having the Bible read together in the family, the Bible Society of Egypt initiated the “Open Bible in Every Home” project where the family is presented with a Bible and a study guide. The aim of this project is to have the family read and meditate on the Bible together and answer quiz questions on certain books of the Bible. Our goal is to provide 1 million Bibles in 5 years. In the first three years of this project, we distributed 455,000 Bibles, each with the study guide.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, we put our children in your hands. Help us to regard our time with them as the most important task in our parenthood and spend quality time with them, meditating on your precious word.

Days

2 Timothy 3:1-17

What People Will Be Like in the Last Days

1You can be certain that in the last days there will be some very hard times. 2People will love only themselves and money. They will be proud, stuck-up, rude, and disobedient to their parents. They will also be ungrateful, godless, 3heartless, and hateful. Their words will be cruel, and they will have no self-control or pity. These people will hate everything good. 4They will be sneaky, reckless, and puffed up with pride. Instead of loving God, they will love pleasure. 5Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won't be real. Don't have anything to do with such people.

6Some men fool whole families, just to get power over those women who are slaves of sin and are controlled by all sorts of desires. 7These women always want to learn something new, but they never can discover the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, these people are enemies of the truth. Their minds are sick, and their faith isn't real. 9But they won't get very far with their foolishness. Soon everyone will know the truth about them, just as Jannes and Jambres were found out.

Paul's Last Instructions to Timothy

10Timothy, you know what I teach and how I live. You know what I want to do and what I believe. You have seen how patient and loving I am, and how in the past I put up with 11 trouble and suffering in the cities of Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. Yet the Lord rescued me from all those terrible troubles. 12In fact, anyone who belongs to Christ Jesus and wants to live right will have trouble from others. 13But evil people who pretend to be what they are not will become worse than ever, as they fool others and are fooled themselves.

14Keep on being faithful to what you were taught and to what you believed. After all, you know who taught you these things. 15Since childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise enough to have faith in Christ Jesus and be saved. 16Everything in the Scriptures is God's Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live. 17The Scriptures train God's servants to do all kinds of good deeds.
