Reflection:
Matthew 11:28-30 is special because it is in these verses we read about Jesus sharing with others about his heart. In biblical terms, the heart defines the life posture and motivation of a person. “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it,” we are reminded by Proverbs 4:23. What Jesus wants us to know is that he is gentle and humble at heart. In other words, he welcomes us with open arms and makes himself available when we need him.
When we put our faith in Jesus, we know the posture of faith is to be gentle and humble. We are then reminded that being gentle and humble as we go about our daily business is one way to demonstrate our faith in Jesus. This is especially true when we encounter hardship in life: we can be gentle and humble because we put our faith in a Lord who is gentle and humble in heart — a Lord who promises will give us rest.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, you are gentle and humble in heart. As I learn from you, may my faith grow in you, and I will find the rest that you want to give me.
