Series Introduction
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love” (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Vu, Executive Director of Bible Society Vietnam, reflects, “Faith, hope, and love are God’s gifts. They are also virtues that, as Christians, we are invited to practice in our daily lives. Over the next seven days, we will spend two days reflecting on the practices and postures of faith; two days reflecting on attitudes and actions that increase Christian hope, and three days reflecting on how to love God, love ourselves, and love others.”
Reflection:
By faith…
… Abel brought God a better offering.
… Enoch was taken from this life so that he did not experience death.
… Noah in holy fear built an ark to save his family.
… Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went.
… Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children.
Faith, as shown in Hebrews 11, is demonstrated prominently by action. As we receive the gift of faith, we are expected to use, maintain, and grow our faith. Doing differently is dishonouring both God and God’s gift. We can remember that worthy faith is the faith that is put into action.
A popular Chinese proverb says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Our lifelong journey of faith comprises small steps that we make every day — steps such as: reading some Scripture; offering a prayer of thanksgiving to God; sending a word of encouragement to someone; or keeping silent for a few minutes to acknowledge that God is bigger than the problems we are encountering… It is through God’s grace that we are guided in the right direction.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for your gift of faith. May you give me the strength to put my faith into action every day. As I grow in faith, may I know that my life has always been sustained by your grace.
