Generosity - Part 2

Day 3 of 3

CEV

Psalms 41:1-3

(A psalm by David for the music leader.)

A Prayer in Time of Sickness

1You, Lord God, bless everyone

who cares for the poor,

and you rescue those people

in times of trouble.

2You protect them

and keep them alive.

You make them happy here

in this land,

and you don't hand them over

to their enemies.

3You always heal them

and restore their strength

when they are sick.

It is easy to see needs around our world. Even in our daily interactions. But seeing a need means nothing if we do not respond to it. If my daughter were to come to me hungry, I wouldn’t avert my eyes from her. I would meet her need, having pre-planned for it, expecting it. In the same way I plan to feed my family through budgeting, meal planning and shopping, I need to make margin in my life so that I can meet the needs of those I see around me. There’s lots of opportunities: a friend who has a sick child; a sponsor child who needs my $48 a month to attend school and have their basic needs met; a child in my community who needs a safe home for a while.

God wants us to do more than just see the needs. He wants us to look at what we have to give to the situation and generously, with passion and love, meet the need.

Question
What need do you see in your world and where is your passion? How do the two intercept?

Prayer
Thank you Jesus that your love exists for all of us. Help me to see what needs are around me and how I can generously meet them with the gifts you have given me.

Psalms 41:1-13

(A psalm by David for the music leader.)

A Prayer in Time of Sickness

1You, Lord God, bless everyone

who cares for the poor,

and you rescue those people

in times of trouble.

2You protect them

and keep them alive.

You make them happy here

in this land,

and you don't hand them over

to their enemies.

3You always heal them

and restore their strength

when they are sick.

4I prayed, “Have pity, Lord!

Heal me, though I have sinned

against you.”

5My vicious enemies ask me,

“When will you die

and be forgotten?”

6When visitors come,

all they ever bring

are worthless words,

and when they leave,

they spread gossip.

7My enemies whisper about me.

They think the worst,

8and they say,

“You have some fatal disease!

You'll never get well.”

9 My most trusted friend

has turned against me,

though he ate at my table.

10Have pity, Lord! Heal me,

so I can pay them back.

11Then my enemies

won't defeat me,

and I will know

that you really care.

12You have helped me

because I am innocent,

and you will always

be close to my side.

13 You, the Lord God of Israel,

will be praised forever!

Amen and amen.
