Reflection: In the above passage we see people questioning the massacre committed by Pilate against some Galileans. Jesus asks them, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way, they were worse sinners than all other Galileans?
A similar question was asked by most people in Sri Lanka — even by my children — when the 2019 Easter Bomb attack took place. Most of the victims attended the Easter Sunday Service at the churches, and went there to worship God. So, can we say this happened because they were sinners? But Jesus clearly answered, “No! But I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish.”
So, it is necessary that we encourage and teach our children that God urges us to repent, and suggests that everyone needs to turn away from their sinful ways and turn towards him. In Luke 18:19, Jesus says, “No one is good but God alone.” As we repent and turn towards God, we should always be prepared to go to God’s presence.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we come before you and ask you to help us to withhold judgment and extend compassion to others in their times of suffering. Lead us in repentance and transformation and grant us the wisdom to trust in your justice and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
