I sometimes like to restore old furniture. Where others see junk, I see potential. With a lick of paint, a cabinet can look transformed, like new. Underneath it’s still the same old piece though. Its structure remains unchanged.
When God takes a hold of us, we too are transformed, but inwardly. We are made new in Him. Our core is changed. Our heart is changed. Where once bitterness and anger dwelt, love and forgiveness now reside. Where self-loathing and despair were, now hope and light fill the space.
We no longer choose the same old broken things of this world. We focus on the things of God and are renewed by Him. It may not be easy. But God is doing a good work in us, (Philippians 1:6) and He will help us.
Question
Is there an area of your life where you need to be made new?
Prayer
God, help me to be more like you in how I live and treat others. Help me change when it is hard. Thank you that you care for me.
