Series Introduction
In this devotion series, originally written by Guan Un in 2017, we consider what J.I. Packer said about the Fatherhood of God: “You sum up the whole of New Testament teaching in a single phrase, if you speak of it as a revelation of the Fatherhood of the Holy Creator”. In these devotions, we will bring our hearts before the truth that God himself is our Father, that Jesus Christ is our brother, and that we are the Father’s children.
Reflection:
This is the first time that God speaks of adoption—that Israel, as a nation, is his own son. And not just any son, but his firstborn. In the speech that the Lord gives to Moses, Israel is made equivalent to Pharaoh’s own firstborn heir. And in the power struggle that ensues, the sonship of Israel will be earned through blood.
What has God done to win you as his child?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to see you as my father, and see myself as your child. Amen.
