The kind of admission King David makes in this Psalm about his very real sin doesn’t sit well in our culture and in my own desire to look good. I can be quick to cover up mistakes and put on a mask to convince people I have it all together. Pride rises up. That only leads to disconnection from God and others.
Healing comes when I am real before God and others. I have to be willing to admit my mistakes and how far I am from the person God created me to be. Then I can be open to his love and mercy. I can receive his gentle correction that is only for my good.
This then gives me compassion for others and their mistakes. I can forgive more easily when I recognise my own need for forgiveness. It has to start with me being vulnerable and honest.
Question
What do you need to confess to God today? Get really real with where you have messed up.
Prayer
Lord, show me areas of guilt and sin that I need to bring to you. Help me to be real with you so that I can grow closer to you and show mercy to others. Amen.
