Jesus doesn’t promise that following him will be a trouble-free path, quite the opposite. Here we see He warns the disciples they will face trials, but also that in the end He himself overcomes all.
Have you ever watched a sporting match where you already know the outcome? It just doesn’t hold the same apprehension and stress as watching a live match. You already know who wins—so you don’t need to worry through the twists and turns of the game. As Christians, knowing God has already won the eternal battle through Jesus’ death and resurrection should bring comfort in the troubles we will inevitably face.
Jesus directs his disciples, us, to look to Him for peace when we are overwhelmed by the troubles of this world. We are to take comfort in His victory over sin and death.
Question
