How often I catch myself thinking that I can’t ‘afford’ to give to a particular charity or need and then give little thought to buying myself a treat. Our finances may be tighter than they used to be but we still have the capacity to be generous. It comes down to releasing my selfishness and having eyes to see the need in the lives of those around me.
I get stuck in thinking that generosity has to mean large donations. Maybe you do too. We forget the impact that we can have when we each contribute a part that makes up the larger benefit.
Organising a meal calendar for a family with a newborn or illness. Grabbing a few extra grocery items to donate to a food drive. Offering to babysit for a single mum so she can have some time for herself.
Let’s be openhanded with what we have.
Question
What do you have to contribute?
Prayer
Lord, forgive us for being self-focused and not seeing how much we have. May your love for others drive us to be generous today. Amen.
