Chase Joy - Part 1

Day 2 of 3

NIV

Psalms 63:7

7Because you are my help,

I sing in the shadow of your wings.

Do you ever have moments where you don’t want to be the adult anymore but to be the child where you can be sheltered while someone else is the responsible one? Or maybe that’s just me?

This imagery of being in the shadow of God’s wings appears several times in the Bible. I imagine myself tucked up safe and secure, hidden under a wing like a hen protects her chicks. There may be storms raging around me but I am ultimately protected and helped. What a deep sense of security!

That security releases a childlike sense of joy. I can delight in that help and protection in the midst of the hard times. I can release the burden of being solely responsible. I just need to remind myself that I am in the shadow of His wings.

Questions:
When was the last time you felt that sense of security that bubbled over into joy?
How can you remind yourself of that promise of being under the shadow of His wings?

Prayer:
Lord, I need your help and protection today. Thank you that I am covered by the shadow of your wings. Amen

Psalms 63:1-11

Psalm 63

A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.

1You, God, are my God,

earnestly I seek you;

I thirst for you,

my whole being longs for you,

in a dry and parched land

where there is no water.

2I have seen you in the sanctuary

and beheld your power and your glory.

3Because your love is better than life,

my lips will glorify you.

4I will praise you as long as I live,

and in your name I will lift up my hands.

5I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;

with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

6On my bed I remember you;

I think of you through the watches of the night.

7Because you are my help,

I sing in the shadow of your wings.

8I cling to you;

your right hand upholds me.

9Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;

they will go down to the depths of the earth.

10They will be given over to the sword

and become food for jackals.

11But the king will rejoice in God;

all who swear by God will glory in him,

while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
