Reflection: People who are not yet Christians are those God has sent to watch the church and assess its worth. This means that we are God’s billboards, and we need to carry God’s name with integrity.
There’s a spiritual war going on for the soul of Western civilisation, and it is relentless. Its reality is seen in the way that Christianity is consistently parodied and maligned on TV and in films. The message is repeated over and over, both subtly and not so subtly, and this presents a real risk to our children who desperately want to be accepted and find their identity in society. They need to find their way in a world that has become darker and less certain.
Jesus understood that things wouldn’t be easy. That is why he instructs all those who follow him to ‘allow’ something. The thing we are to ‘allow’ is a revelation, a revelation of what we believe. This revelation is to come from people observing the good things God’s people do.
So, let’s do them.
The things we do prove the worth and significance of what we believe. Christianity means accepting Jesus’ death on our behalf. It also means allowing God’s Holy Spirit to transform our character so that we do good things that bless other people. That’s what Jesus is looking for from all of us who seek to carry his name. It’s important to note that we don’t do good things in order to be a Christian; we do them because we are Christians. Our actions will attract people to Jesus (1 Peter 2:12).
Prayer:Â Loving Father, you have entrusted your reputation to me. Please enable me, by your Spirit, to live a life of such quality that others will seek you and honour your name.
