Reflection: This series of daily devotions features God’s invitation to ‘carry his name.’ It is an invitation to carry the love of God and the truth of God. But here’s the thing: We don’t just carry these things to serve ourselves, we are given these things so we can carry them to those who don’t yet know God’s love and truth. God calls us to do so because God is a missionary God. That is why the apostle Peter writes: ‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect’ (1 Peter 3:15).
God is passionate about growing his kingdom. The inherent generosity of God means that he wants his kingdom to be full. God wants to grow his kingdom because God is relational. Quite simply, he wants people to share in his love. That is why Jesus has appointed us to be his witnesses — locally, regionally, and globally. This mission brings a whole new significance to God’s invitation for us to carry his name. I invite you to carry it well.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing of significance for you. We ask that you fill us afresh with your Spirit so that we will carry your name faithfully wherever we go.
