The theologian John Wesley famously said, “I learned more about Christianity from my mother than from all the theologians in England.”
Teaching our kids about the Lord can feel like a daunting task. (And when they get old enough to ask good questions, it exposes the gaps in our own knowledge!)
But this Proverb teaches us that the most important thing that will give our children security and safety is having parents who fear the Lord.
That doesn’t mean we need to have the answer to every question they ask or read heavy theology books day and night.
The most important thing is that we model for them a life and an attitude of humble reverence before God. That we show them where our true strength lies.
Question
Do your children see that you fear the Lord, or do they see you fear other things?
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you that you are almighty and holy. Thank you that you are my refuge and security. Please help me to live in humble reverence before you every day. Help me to model this and teach this to my children, so that they can have their security in you, too. Amen.
