Why Christmas

Day 10 of 14

NIV

Matthew 2:1-2

'After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’ When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. '

The Magi (often referred to as ‘the wise men’) sensed the significance of Jesus’ birth. They asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? ’ (v.2) They sought and found him.

When ‘they saw the child… they bowed down and worshipped him’ (v.11).

They recognised that Jesus was the fulfilment of all the hopes and dreams of the people up to his birth. Jesus is the one who fulfils all God’s promises. He is the greatest gift!

Question: When was the last time you bowed down to Jesus?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, today I want to bow down and worship you. I want to offer you everything I have – my life, my all.
