Reflection
More than ever, it’s hard to simply ‘be’ in a distracted age. We are so busy, run off our feet juggling relationships, careers, children, ministry — and even holidays. So, demanding are our schedules we need an excuse to sit and do nothing much in particular. Hence: adult colouring in books, which are supposed to help quiet the mind made shouty by the stresses of modern life.
If we think we’re busy, then what of Jesus? We find him here busy healing, preaching, discipling. He’s a man in demand. Even the breakneck pace of Mark’s gospel pushes Jesus ever forward to his crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus is on a schedule. And yet this most busiest of men makes time to connect and commune with God. Seeking that stillness of spirit before God is a high priority for Jesus.
Is it a high priority for you?
Prayer
Our loving Father, please help us make it the highest priority for us, especially in the midst of our busyness, to spend time with you. May we always remember, and may our actions demonstrate, that you are the most important thing in our lives. Amen.
