We often hear that mornings are key for setting the tone of our day. At times, I have taken this as another expectation to add the ‘perfect’ routine into my morning. Prayer tended to get lumped into that. I had ideas of what morning prayer should look like to be valid.
Rather than an expectation, this is an invitation. David says a few verses later, “But I, by your great love, can come into your house” (5:8). Before we get sucked into the vortex of our day, we can pause and refocus on God. We can release those things on our mind to him so that we don’t carry that heavy burden.
It doesn’t have to be long or fancy. It doesn’t have to look the same everyday. A simple conversation with God. A time of quiet listening where we can enjoy being loved by him. Words spoken in the quietness of your heart, out loud or written in a journal.
Then we can wait expectantly. I see this as releasing the outcome to God, trusting that he is at work and resting in that.
