Do you live as though you are set apart and on this earth for a purpose? We often draw our identity from what we do and the communities to which we belong. But what happens when that job ends or that community is disrupted? We need a deeper foundation for our identity.
This verse was spoken specifically to Jeremiah: we are not all appointed as a prophet to the nations! It’s primarily teaching us about God’s care for his nation through how he works in histoy, but there’s still some personal application for us. It echoes Psalm 139 talking about how God knew us before we were born and already had a plan for us.
This knowledge can form a firm foundation for who we are if we let it. We are not an accident or waste of space. We are known, loved and made with purpose.
This goes beyond any role we have, tasks we do or community we are in.
Question
Do you truly believe this?
Prayer
Father, remind us today that you have always known us and created us with purpose. May you be the foundation of our identity. Amen
