As mothers we often hold our child’s hand. To keep them safe when they cross the road. When they have to be brave and have a blood test. When they can’t quite cross the balance beam unaided. We help them. We literally offer a helping hand of love and strength.
This verse from Isaiah uses this imagery of tender hand holding as an expression of God’s love, help and strength. As believers in Jesus, we are God’s children. He offers to comfort us in our fears, to help us, strengthen us and uphold (sustain) us so that we do not need to be afraid. At times life will feel overwhelming—the good news is we don’t have to be alone. God is right there waiting to take your hand and offer his strength to get you through.
Question:
What area of life do you feel the need for God’s strength and help?
Prayer:
God, thank you for offering your strength and help to me. Help me to understand what this means, and to rely on you. Thank you for caring about me. Amen
