Sometimes it can be so hard to help those who are suffering. We want to say something that will comfort, but we don’t want to say the wrong thing. Often we end up going with a safe and simple “I’m sorry” or “I’m here for you”.
When our children are young, there’s not much that won’t be fixed by a cuddle and a kiss. However, there will come a day when the pain they’re suffering can’t be soothed so easily.
The good news is that we have something even better to offer than sweet words or the temporary relief of hugs and kisses.
When we have the hope of knowing Jesus, both in this life and the life to come, we can give that same hope and comfort to others. Even though we can’t take away their pain, we can offer them an everlasting comfort.
Question:
Who in your life might need to be comforted with the hope you have in Jesus today?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Thank you for your great comfort and mercy. Thank you that you give me hope and comfort here and now, and for the future. Please help me to be aware of those around me who need to receive this comfort as well. Use me to comfort others with true hope when they need it most. Amen.
