I wish I could honestly say that I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. For many, the last few years have been a season of worry, confusion and change. Some days have literally been about surviving the minutes: 10 minutes until morning tea, we can be outside for 20 more minutes, the sun sets in 45 more minutes and then I can put them to bed and lie down with Netflix.
Whatever your circumstances have been, perhaps as we exit this strange season, we will have a fresh sense of what Paul is talking about in this passage—whether living in plenty or in want, we can remain content in the strength that God has given us.
Question
How have you endured the last year? Content in God’s strength or surviving the minutes on your own strength?
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have held onto my own strength instead of resting in yours. Contentment doesn’t come from things or people, it comes from knowing your love for me. Help me to be content whatever the circumstances.
