I don’t know about you, but it seems to me like every day there’s a new article being published about all the ways you’re probably messing up your children… Not enough vegetables, too much screen time, not enough exercise, etc. etc. (If you thought this ended after you get past the formula vs. breastfeeding issue, sorry, it doesn’t!).
If you spend any time on social media, you’ll be aware of this (ever-growing) list of standards for motherhood.
It’s enough to make any average mum feel like a hot mess!
That’s why I think we really need to dwell on this refreshing truth from Philippians 1:6. That God, who began the good work of salvation in us will carry it through to completion.
In other words, it’s not our own works or achievements as mothers that matter at the end of the day. The most important work—the work in our souls—is being done in us. It’s not something we can mess up, because we’re not the ones doing it.
Isn’t that a relief!
Question
Do you ever feel like you don’t measure up as a mum? How can you remind yourself of the truth in these moments?
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you so much that you will not give up your work in me. Thank you that this work doesn’t depend on my actions, but it is completely your doing. Help me to remember the truth when I feel like a failure. Amen.
