Becoming a Godly Father

Day 3 of 7

NIV

Psalms 127:3-4

3Children are a heritage from the Lord,

offspring a reward from him.

4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior

are children born in one’s youth.

Reflection:  For further reference, please see Matthew 7:9-12.

Children are one of the most precious gifts from God, and even in my imperfect ways, I only want what’s best for my daughter. I also understand that not everything she asks for is good for her.

Throughout the gospels Jesus depicts God as a loving Father, who gives good gifts and desires to do good for His children. But what is good for us doesn’t always coincide with what we ask for.

Praise God that whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father(James 1:17).  I am grateful for the example of generosity and discernment shown to us by our Heavenly Father.

Question:  Have you ever prayed for something that maybe wasn’t what was best for your life? Have you ever found yourself complaining about the very things you once prayed to God and asked for?

Prayer:  Father in heaven, who gives good things to those who ask him. I am grateful for every good gift that I know comes from you. Give me wisdom and discernment as I learn to steward the gifts you have given to me. Amen

Psalms 127:1-5

Psalm 127

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

1Unless the Lord builds the house,

the builders labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the guards stand watch in vain.

2In vain you rise early

and stay up late,

toiling for food to eat—

for he grants sleep to those he loves.

3Children are a heritage from the Lord,

offspring a reward from him.

4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior

are children born in one’s youth.

5Blessed is the man

whose quiver is full of them.

They will not be put to shame

when they contend with their opponents in court.
