Mothering is relentless. Moments of breakthrough quickly slip into moments of chaos. It can be easy to lament on where we are finding life hard, or when God seems far. I often need to remind my children that when they chorus, “You never let us have ice-cream”, there was the time I took them out just last week for a special ice-cream treat. It can be that way for us too, as our heart sings out “I never get a moment’s peace” or “I’m always on my own.” Physically this may be true, but God has revealed himself to us just as he did to the Israelites. Chasing Joy means chasing his presence and reminding ourselves of the times we have known it, and sharing our stories of who God is and what he has done for us with our children.
