Reflections: We humans have a remarkable ability to stuff things up. Even though God created us in his image, we rebelled against our king. And yet, he promises a new beginning, a new kingdom: one day, through Abraham’s children, God’s people will once again live in his land with him as their king. This is the story of the Bible. But just like Abraham, we fear the world and fail to trust his promises. Praise God that in spite of our faithlessness, he remains faithful: “no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ” (2 Cor 1:20). Jesus fulfils God’s great promise of a new beginning: “I will be your God and you will be my people.”
Question: How are you tempted to not trust God’s promises? How will you extend his promise of a new beginning to “all the peoples on earth”?
Prayer: God of all promise, thank you for your eternal plan of salvation; that in Jesus, you are restoring your kingdom. Guard our hearts from fear and faithlessness. Help us trust your every promise and burden us with a desire for the salvation of all the peoples on earth. Amen.
