Living Above the Mess

Day 5 of 14

CSB

Psalms 123:1

Psalm 123

Looking for God’s Favor

A song of ascents.

1I lift my eyes to you,

the one enthroned in heaven.

Reflections:  The ‘I’ Means You

Did you notice the action in this verse? ‘I’ lift my eyes to you: the ‘I’ means you. We choose every day (even hourly, at times) to not look at the mess around us and to lift our eyes. This is a spiritual action: lifting our eyes above the negative circumstances, negative voices, issues or problems we have around us and choose to focus on God. Choose to see him enthroned in heaven, above our mess, above our circumstances. When the bills come in, don’t hang your head in discouragement, lift your eyes and ask God for help. We lift our eyes to the One seated in heavenly places, ruling and reigning! He has a bird’s eye view of the maze that you find yourself in. So today, set your sight on the one who sits above the maze and ask for help!

Questions:  What part of your life – your ‘mess – will you ask for God’s help with today?

Prayers:  Lord, forgive me where my focus has been on the mess, on the negative things in my life and the problems. Today, I take my sight off the issues and put them on You, high and lifted, seated in heavenly places and totally in control. Show me how to get out of the maze.

Psalms 123:1-4

Psalm 123

Looking for God’s Favor

A song of ascents.

1I lift my eyes to you,

the one enthroned in heaven.

2Like a servant’s eyes on his master’s hand,

like a servant girl’s eyes on her mistress’s hand,

so our eyes are on the Lord our God

until he shows us favor.

3Show us favor, Lord, show us favor,

for we’ve had more than enough contempt.

4We’ve had more than enough

scorn from the arrogant

and contempt from the proud.
