Reflections: Come Up Here and Let God Show You
Revelation is a weird and amazing book. After studying it for the last eight years, I still find it incredibly strange and beyond what my brain can understand! But as I lean in and continue to read, study and fall in love with Revelation, I am overwhelmed by its simple message. John got the opportunity to get away from his present situation (in prison on the Isle of Patmos) and see the world from God’s point of view. He walked through this incredible door–as described in Revelation 4:1–into a realm that was beyond his thinking, and his angelic guide showed him what God was up to. The call in this verse was for John to ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place.’ This call comes to us when the beautiful Holy Spirit urges us to come away and spend time with God in prayer or reading our Bibles. For me, Bible and prayer time are where I come away from everything I am dealing with and walk through a door of heaven and allow God to show me his perspective and his plans. I receive fresh hope, fresh understanding and a fresh vision. I get a heavenly view of things on earth and no matter how bad it gets down here, heaven’s view keeps everything in God’s perspective.
Questions: How can you make space to have more ‘come up here’ moments amid ‘the mess’ of life?
Prayers: God, as I pray and read your Word today, let me have a ‘Come up here’ moment where I get a heavenly perspective on things that are happening here on Earth. Give me wisdom where I have none, peace where I am anxious, joy where I am sad and hope where I am hopeless.
