Reflections: He is sitting down!
Did you know that John refers to the ‘throne of God’ seven times in the book of Revelation? Read through and try to find them, it is really an amazing study. It doesn’t matter how bad things get in the book of Revelation; John reminds those hearing this epic story that God is seated in heavenly places. This is a great message that still speaks to us today–God is completely in control. What an incredible comfort that is! I love the way John uses the word ‘behold’ in this verse. ‘Behold’ means ‘to stop and think upon it’. Stop and think about God being seated in heavenly places, above all powers and principalities, above everything. God is not pacing in anxiety, unsure of whether this is going to turn out as he planned – no! He is sitting; at rest, assured of his authority and control over everything that is happening. We should be the same, seated and assured that God is in control.
Questions: What areas of your life can you surrender to God’s control, and ‘be seated’?
Prayers: Thank you, God, that you are seated in heavenly places, high and lifted and exalted above everything that happens here on Earth. Today, let that assurance be in my spirit that You are in control and give me strength to be seated in stature, trusting in Your power and authority no matter what I face.
