A Question of Justice

Day 7 of 7

CEV

Mark 12:28-31

‘One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:28-31, CEV

Reflection:

When we love God, we want to know him better. That means we will naturally love his word – exploring it, meditating on it, and allowing it to speak to us.

When we love our neighbour, we naturally want them to have the same opportunity to connect with God through his word.

Because right now, for so many people worldwide this very minute, the words…

‘for God so loved.’

‘It is finished.’

‘Love your neighbour’

…they simply don’t exist in their language yet. Too many of my neighbours can’t access them.

It’s a kind of unfinished symphony – those divine words waiting to be echoed in every tongue.

And it’s an injustice that we, as the global church, get to be a part of putting right.

Because when we love God, we see how much he loves the world – and we want that world to hear about his love.

Prayer:

God, thank you so much for your incredible love for us. May I know that love in new and more profound ways today, Lord. Please help your love to overflow in my heart, mind, and actions towards all those I come into contact with today, God. May I show your love to my neighbour, so they see a glimpse of you. And God, I pray that your word will continue to be translated into the languages of every person – every neighbour – on the planet, God, so that they can also know your love through your word.  Amen.
