Reflection:
When God searched the entire world for a woman to be the mother of the Lord Jesus Christ his eyes fell upon Mary.
There was something about Mary that attracted the favour of God. It is written twice within today’s text. “Greetings, you who are highly favoured!” and “you have found favour with God.” Mary found favour with God because Mary sought favour with God. The same statement is made about Noah, “But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord” (Genesis 6:8). There is something about these people’s lives that was like a magnet for the favour of God.
I think we get an insight into why this happens from Mary’s response to God where she says, “I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38). There was a willing availability in Mary’s heart for all that God had planned for her. That willing surrender to the purposes of God is a magnet for God’s favour.
If you want to live with the favour of God upon your life, then express that your answer is “Yes” to him. If he asks, your predetermined response is “Yes.”
Prayer:
God, help me to learn to trust you and be available to you. I offer my life to you so that when you look around the world you will see me. I trust you that your plans for my life are good, and I choose to offer myself to you for your purposes. Amen.
