Reflections: A new community
Jesus ascends to his rightful place on the throne over all creation, then sends his Holy Spirit to dwell in his people, empowering them to live out the new life of the kingdom. The Spirit forms a new community of God’s people, those who live out the new life Jesus’ resurrection has made possible. This new life is characterised by devotion to God, devotion to one another, and devotion to the good news of the kingdom. The way they live and love together is a tangible demonstration of the gospel and is practiced in full view of the people around them. People notice the way they are living, and begin to ask questions, seeking to be part of this new community for themselves, and so the church grows.
Questions: How is the gospel seen in practice in the way your community loves and lives together? Who are you inviting to see and be part of what God is doing among you?
Prayers: Empowering Spirit, thank you for coming to dwell within your people in a new way that we might know you and be transformed by you. Help us to so love you and love one another that those around us cannot help but wonder and be drawn to the life of the kingdom that you are creating.
