Great Is Their Faithlessness
Unfaithfulness hurts. The ancient Phoenician city of Tyre had made a treaty with another nation. But when that nation was vulnerable, Tyre broke their treaty and exploited them. This is exactly the opposite to Jesus. You can’t get weaker, more vulnerable, than being a sinner under the wrath of the almighty, holy God. And that’s all of us – you and me both. But Jesus, precisely when we were weak, helpless sinners, was loyal to us. He rode heroically to our rescue, dying and rising for us.
Question: What does it mean for you, in your particular situation in life, to be loyal to Jesus, just like he has been loyal to you?
Prayer: Forgive us, heavenly Father, for our unfaithfulness to you. Thank you for your love and loyalty to us in giving your son Jesus to us. Holy Spirit, make us people characterised by loyalty and faithfulness – especially in this era of selfishness, greed, and consumerism – so that people will see a little reflection of you in us. Amen.
