Reflections: I’ve spoken a lot in this devotional series about the source of our transformation. Alongside the power of God’s Word lies the creative and liberative power of the Spirit. Finishing his contrasting strategy (between ‘those who live according to the flesh’ and ‘those who live according to the Spirit’), Paul asserts that those in whom the Spirit of Christ dwells, those who possess eternal life and hope for the future, are the ones who belong to Spirit. Paul says that if you do not have these things, you ‘belong to the flesh’. There is now a new spiritual-genetic code for those belonging to the Spirit. This new spiritual identity is called to embrace the wonder of the now and the not yet. There is an understanding of the present life and the sufferings that may occur within, but this is not in vain. There is a hope and a future, which brings life to the present. A life that is identifiable by peace within the storm and hope within the trial.
Question: As a new creation, what source of hope are you holding onto this side of eternity?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I thank you for your transformative, life-changing power. I ask that you continue to dwell richly in my life, overflow into my world and bring forth life and abundance into my being. I thank you for the hope of the resurrection and the promise of your life both here and to come. Amen.
