Day 9 of 14

NIV

Isaiah 35:6-7

Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

Reflection

Have you ever been camping? The success of a camping trip is very much dependent on where you set up your tent. You wouldn’t choose a location where dangerous predators have their den. A spot sheltered from the wind and sun by lush foliage would be a much more pleasant, safer and more appropriate choice. Isaiah 35 depicts God’s pilgrim people on a journey through the wilderness. In that arid environment, safe places to rest with access to clean water would have been greatly needed. God is the Living Water who allows our “grass and reeds and papyrus” to grow – in other words, our real safety, rest and refreshing comes from our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Question

Life can be busy – how do you ensure you are spending time with God from day to day?

Prayer

Loving God, you are my Living Water. As I wait on you, my soul is refreshed. As I am nourished by you, you enable me to grow and flourish. Even when life feels like an arid wilderness, you are my oasis. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
