Who is God? What is he like? How can we know him? The Bible gives us many descriptions of God’s character: from his eternal nature, his sovereignty and power, to the way he reveals himself to us. Be encouraged and challenged by these passages on the nature and character of God.
Today we start a new series, Who is God? which has been prepared by Monique Hayes. Monique is a nurse, a graduate of Moore Theological College in Sydney and a new mother.
Reflection: These verses show us that we should not assume to be able to know God, for God is far greater than us (Is 55:8-9). He dwells in unapproachable light. We do not know his mind or understand his ways. As Moses could not see God’s face lest he die, we too cannot fully see God in his glory lest we be destroyed (Ex 33:20). However, God has made it possible for us to know him.
Question: What do these verses tell us about our ability to know God?
Prayer: God, you are glorious – I cannot comprehend your thoughts or your ways. Give me a humble heart as I come to your word seeking to know you. Help me, though I am small, to know you more and more. Amen.
